“I never thought I could do it” - study volunteers share their experiences of getting fit

Our latest study has challenged a whole range of volunteers to take up exercise and raise their fitness. And already, we’re hearing some inspirational stories…

In September we began the research for our latest study, in partnership with the Department of Health and Social Care.

We recruited dozens of volunteers - most of whom don’t currently exercise on a regular basis. All participants have signed up to NHS Couchto5k and NHS Active10 so that we can measure the effects of their activity on their physical and mental health.

We’ve had some wonderful comments on social media as they progress on their journeys to fitness:

“Really grateful for this group to motivate me to keep it up - to anyone still on the programme, you can do it!!!”

“I have completed Couch to 5k, which I never thought I would…”

“I’m so proud of myself.”

See the gallery below for more comments from our volunteers, taken from our participants’ Facebook group. It’s fantastic to see our volunteers discussing their progress and encouraging one another online.

Thank you and well done to all our participants so far!
