Become a volunteer, enjoy the benefits, and make your exercise count for science.

Why volunteer?

Do you love exercise or avoid it? Would you like to be fitter? Do you ever wonder whether exercise is good or bad for your joints, or how it could help them? Our studies depend on people like you. By measuring the effects of your exercise on your joints, we can answer these questions for you and others like you.

It’s easy to get involved and it won’t take up too much time. For most studies we’ll just need you to come in for two health checks with an MRI scan — typically once before and once after the period of training and activity you’re undertaking. Musculoskeletal MRI scanning enables you to find out all about your health and fitness and learn about any damage or weaknesses to be aware of in your joints — an opportunity that can be costly or difficult to access normally.

How it works

More good reasons to be an Exercise for Science volunteer:

  • Become part of a community of people committed to promoting better public health while achieving happier, healthier more active lives.

  • Get free health checks before and after the exercise programme to see how your joint health and overall fitness has changed.

  • Join with others doing the same activity and get the support and encouragement you need to achieve your exercise goals.

  • Prioritise physical activity in your life — to boost your energy, raise your spirits, make everyday tasks easier and help you achieve more.

  • Play your part in supporting the NHS and reducing the burden on our health and care services.
